How to Organise an Artistic Mind

how-to-organize-an-artistic-mind
Running a business is a complicated task involving all sorts of intricate tasks, each of them needing to be completed at a specific time and in a certain order. That’s a big ask even for the kind of mind that enjoys spreadsheets and lists – and, because you’re reading a boudoir photography marketing website, I’m guessing that doesn’t describe yours.

We photographers are artistically minded – it’s what makes us so good at what we do. And while we can’t promise to make you a database wizard, we can show you how to make the most of your own way of thinking to always keep you on the right track.

  1. Forget setting up a filing system – you’re never going to use it. Instead, clear off some surface space and make a pile for each client or booking. You don’t need labels and file dividers, you just need to remember who’s in which pile and remind yourself to add documentation to it as it comes in.
  2. Make your computer easier to manage. This is just as easy as the first step: simply make a folder for each client on your desktop or in your documents folder and throw everything relevant into that file as you go along. It’ll be easy to find things the next time you need them but, on the other hand, you won’t need to worry about a complicated system.
  3. Invest in a calendar whiteboard you can scrawl on and hang it in front of your workspace. Write down all the important dates for your boudoir photography marketing, such as deadlines for advertisements and the expos you want to attend. Add all of the dates that matter for each client, such as the date of her booking and when she is expecting her products. Now you have an at-a-glance guide to your day and week ahead – no need to think about your schedule.
  4. Use design elements to create your system. You are a visual person, so your organization will need to be too. Use colours that appeal to you, designs that you want to interact with and materials you enjoy using. This can apply to everything from the colour of your pens to the size of your notepads – if you’re attracted to the system you’ve set up, you’ll be more likely to use it.
  5. Avoid Throwaway Tasks. When we’re not sure what to do, we often resort to the kind of task that seems like it’s helping, but doesn’t actually have any effect on our end results. We check our website traffic, for example, or look for comments on our blog. It’s easy to become absorbed in these things, several times a day, but they won’t actually promote your boudoir photography marketing in any tangible way. If you find yourself doing these things on a regular basis, take a step back and consider what else you could be doing instead.
